Petlig method: further development of the Zlig method
The Petlig Method® is a further development of the Vetlig/Zlig method and is essentially based on the following modifications:
- By using a stronger artificial cruciate ligament from the brand Novalig®, we have not seen any tears in the artificial cruciate ligament so far.
- Tapes made from the same medical fibers used in human medicine
- The woven structure of the Novalig® tape promotes tissue growth and maximizes mechanical resistance (proven to be better than free fibers).
- The Novalig® band was developed in collaboration with specialized French surgeons and the Vetagro Sup-University.
- Novalig® bands are manufactured in France by the manufacturer of Novalig® bands.
- The manufacturer Novetech supplies a complete tool set specifically designed for cats and dogs – the pointing device, which enables consistently reproducible drilling of the required tunnel – is particularly important.
- The Novalig-Band® has now proven itself in 10 different applications and is not limited to the Petlig method® (e.g. also for lateral sutures)

Petlig Method® – Advantages
The Petlig Method®, developed from experience gained through over 200 Zlig/Vetlig procedures in the last two years, offers, in our view, the following advantages over the ZLig method, but also in relation to the methods mentioned above. TTA or TPLO:
Looking at the aforementioned studies on TPLO or TTA, they all have in common that the healing of the bone structure – especially around the drill holes, but also with the screws used – is one of the main weaknesses of the healing process.
Therefore, it was important for us to reduce the use of screws as much as possible, thereby increasing the likelihood of successful recovery for patients. This is achieved, among other things, through the use of artificial ligaments equipped with so-called toggles.
Since the Novalig® tapes with 8000 Nm are superior to comparable competitor products not only in structure but also in durability, the use of these tapes is an important component of the Petlig method®.
Inside-Out Method
Furthermore, we use the so-called inside-out method during the operation. This is a significant advantage, especially in cases of... older animals with bilateral cruciate ligament rupture :
Bilateral cruciate ligament tear using the Petlig Method®
Thanks to our well-coordinated team, we can operate on both legs. at the same time, meaning the animal only faces the risk of anesthesia once and the duration of the operation is similar to a simple cruciate ligament operation, as two surgeons work simultaneously.
Instead, this phenomenon would require two operations using the TPLO method, with an 8-week recovery period between each operation. This means double the anesthetic risk, but also poorer healing prospects for the operated leg, as it cannot bear full weight and receives no support from the unoperated leg.
